36-year-old man charged with 1st degree murder of partner on Montreal’s South Shore

Shilei Du, 36, was charged Monday morning with the premeditated murder of his partner, Guangmei Ye, whose body was found Sunday at a residence on Fontenelle Street in Candiac, Que.

Guangmei Ye, 29, was a data analysis specialist at investment banking firm Morgan Stanley.

Local police, together with the Régie intermunicipale de Police Roussillon, arrived at his residence on Fontenelle Street after receiving a call at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Candiac is located on Montreal’s South Shore.

Upon arrival, police found the victim’s body and immediately turned the investigation over to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Police arrived at the scene and detained Du. State police technicians examined the home and investigators interviewed the man, according to an SQ spokesman. The victim’s death is believed to have occurred around November 7.

In September, Shilei Du was charged with criminal harassment in the context of domestic violence and accused of making death threats against her partner. He was released pending trial on October 15.
