Police say Rays’ Wander Franco, who is awaiting trial on sexual assault charges, was arrested after the shooting

Tampa Bay Rays Infielder Wander Franco, who is awaiting trial in the Dominican Republic over allegations of sexual abuse, was arrested for his involvement in a shooting fight in the country, police said Monday.

The incident occurred in the parking lot San Juan de la MaguanaDominican police spokesman Meregirdo Espinosa told The Associated Press. The baseball player was arrested along with another man and woman on Sunday. Police said two firearms were seized.

One of the guns belonged to Franco, who allegedly fought with the man to get the woman’s attention, Espinosa said. Police did not provide information on whether anyone was injured.

The Rays did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

He is scheduled to appear in court on December 12.

Franco refused to speak to the media. He simply said, “Everything is in God’s hands.”

He signed an 11-year, $182 million contract in November 2021. He has not played in any matches since August 12, 2023.
