PLANNING

Normally open from 8am to 10pm on weekdays and 9am to 9pm on weekends, Lidl opens at additional hours as we approach the big day.

But the supermarket chain’s stores in the Republic of Ireland will close early for a few evenings in December so its employees can enjoy a well-deserved break during the holidays.

On Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24, stores will open at the normal time of 8am, but will close at 6pm, four hours earlier than usual.

After closing on 25 and 26 December, Lidl stores will return to normal operating hours until New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31.

Lidl, which closed for New Year’s Eve on Wednesday, January 1, will return to normal working hours on Thursday, January 2.

All other major retailers in Ireland are expected to announce their Christmas opening hours in the coming weeks, with the majority expected to be closed for at least three days.

According to research, the best time to do your shopping is when your supermarket chain opens its doors early in the morning or an hour before it closes its doors.

Additionally, discounts tend to be offered in the morning or evening on various foods, depending on stock volume and sell-by dates.
