Jerry Jones says sunshine at AT&T Stadium gives Cowboys ‘home field advantage’

Curtains became the subject of discussion again in the afternoon cowboys game at AT&T Stadium.

This will remain the case for years to come, as long as Jerry Jones, the company’s owner and chief executive, has a say.

During his weekly interview on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) on Tuesday, Jones defended the Cowboys not using screens at AT&T Stadium.

“Of all the things we need to improve, that’s very low on the list of improvements. Combining regular season and postseason play, the Cowboys lead 29-29 in afternoon play at AT&T Stadium. By contrast, Dallas holds a 48-25 lead in noon and prime time games in the same building.

“We’re game-planning for Sun,” Jones said. “(Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore knew this… I’m sure he spent a lot of time planning and thinking about where the sun would be. He should have. When we looked back at the receiver, I saw the balls being caught. The sun was there. I saw the balls drop, I saw Jason Witten drop the ball, but a lot of “I saw the opposing team drop the ball, too.”

The sun was not visible on the Cowboys’ side. 34-6 loss to Philadelphia. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was unable to catch the pass in the end zone because he “couldn’t see the ball” while looking into the sunlight shining directly through the stadium’s glass doors.

When asked If curtains need to be installed to block sunlight, “yes, 1000%,” Lamb said.

Unless Jones changes his mind, the Cowboys won’t be using screens anytime soon.

“We know the elements play a role in football,” Jones said. “This is the way our stadium has the elements. “When it’s appropriate, we have to play accordingly and win because this is our home field.”
