Man charged after shooting in Walmart parking lot led to short chase in Sedalia

SEDALIA, MO. (KCTV) – A man is facing multiple charges following a shooting in the parking lot of the Sedalia Walmart that led to a short chase with law enforcement.

Pettis County, Missouri, Circuit Court Records filed Tuesday, Nov. 12, show Evans O. Weber, 23, of Sedalia, was charged in connection with the shooting in the Walmart parking lot.

Probable cause statement submitted by Sedalia Police Department He said around 2:45 p.m., Oct. 11, law enforcement was called to the Walmart parking lot at Winchester and W. Broadway Blvd. There are reports of shootings and collisions.

When first responders arrived, they said they saw an argument between Weber and another person in the parking lot. The incident escalated to the point where Weber pistol-whipped his victim, but he pulled the trigger and discharged the firearm. He quickly fled the scene before police arrived.

A short time later, investigators said they located Weber’s vehicle and attempted to stop him, but a short chase ensued. When Weber pulled into the State Fair Mall parking lot, he escaped from the vehicle and continued running.

Court documents showed that Missouri State Highway Patrol Soldiers tackled Weber to the ground, but not before Weber threw his gun into a nearby trash can. As a result, he was detained.

As of Thursday, Nov. 14, Weber remains behind Pettis County bars on a $250,000 bond. He now faces the following charges:

  • Attack
  • Illegal use of a weapon
  • Illegal possession of a firearm
  • Tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution
  • Unlawful discharge of a firearm
  • Aggravated while escaping from a stop or detention
  • Resisting or interfering with arrest for a crime
  • Four separate armed criminal acts

If convicted, Weber could face years in prison and aggravated sentencing due to the nature of his crimes. The hearing is expected to be held on December 3 at 13.30. No further information was given.
