Waverly man sentenced to 30 years in prison for child pornography

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Waverly man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.

Jared Russell Rigdon, 38, pleaded guilty in March to one count of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of distribution of child pornography.

Prosecutors say evidence in the case shows Rigdon downloaded and distributed child pornography files using BitTorrent and Kik between January 2022 and March 22, 2023.

Rigdon admitted to using a video chat app and a screen recording app to record dozens of children from around the world, demanding that Rigdon engage in sexual and lascivious acts.

A forensic examination of his electronic devices found more than 120,000 images of child sexual abuse material.

Upon release, Rigdon will be sentenced to 5 years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
