Shooting involving a deputy is being investigated

HILLSBOROUGH, Fla. (WWSB) – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a deputy-involved shooting involving a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Deputy.

On November 16, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop at West Hillsborough Boulevard and Elliot Drive in Tampa for an unspecified tag. When deputies approached the vehicle, Deputy Jared Mincemeyer asked to see the suspect’s hands. The suspect briefly showed his hands. The suspect reached for the firearm when Mincemeyer asked him to exit the vehicle. The suspect started to get out of the vehicle with the firearm in his hand. Mincemeyer stepped back before shooting the suspect. Suspect St. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mincemeyer has no prior use of force and has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office since October 2022.
