Champaign woman arrested after stabbing to death Saturday evening | News

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are investigating a death following a domestic fight in which a woman stabbed a man in the chest.

Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive for a domestic disturbance at 5:19 p.m. Saturday.

They found a 71-year-old Champaign man stabbed to death in his home.

Officers and Champaign Fire Department personnel began performing life-saving measures but were unable to revive him. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said an initial investigation showed the man was involved in a domestic fight with Dewandee Carter, 67, of Champaign, who stabbed him in the chest. He was arrested while the charges were pending.

Officers remained at the scene for several hours searching the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage.

Despite the arrest, the investigation continues.
