At least 4 people died in CSRA traffic accidents in 4 days

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – The past few days have been deadly on CSRA roadways on both sides of the Savannah River, with the latest fatal crash occurring early Monday in Aiken.

At least two of the crashes will involve criminal investigation: a pursuit in Aiken and a hit-and-run crash in Augusta that killed a pedestrian.

Here’s what happened:

MONDAY

Aiken County: Police say driver fled from deputies

  1. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a fatal crash was reported around 12:40 a.m. on Laurens Street Northwest near Hampton Boulevard in Aiken.
  2. A 2017 Kia sport utility vehicle was trying to evade the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office when it went off the road to the left, overturned and hit a tree.
  3. According to authorities, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to deputies, when the sheriff’s deputy contacted the driver after pulling over, the diver drove the car away, resulting in a pursuit.
  4. According to police, the driver died at the scene.
  5. According to troopers, one of the injured was taken to Wellstar MCG hospital in Augusta for treatment.
  6. We reached out to deputies to learn more about what the driver was avoiding.
  7. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the driver’s name.

SUNDAY

Washington County: Fatal crash outside Sandersville

  1. At 8:52 a.m. Sunday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a question. Fatal traffic accident on West Church Street outside Sandersville.
  2. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
  3. We have contacted cops for details regarding the accident.

FRIDAY

Richmond County: Pedestrian died in collision

  1. A pedestrian died A vehicle was struck in a hit-and-run crash on Friday..
  2. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office responded to Wellstar MCG emergency room regarding the death of a pedestrian.
  3. The coroner said the victim was struck by a vehicle at 10th and Greene streets.
  4. The victim was taken to Wellstar MCG hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 8:57 p.m., according to Richmond County Prosecutor Mark Bowen, who did not release the victim’s name pending notification of the family.

Saluda County: The driver died 3 days after the accident

  1. Three days after a car crash in Saluda County, A driver died Friday, according to coroner Keith Turner.
  2. The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the two-vehicle crash happened around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of U.S. 178 and Duncan Road, six miles south of Saluda.
  3. The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a 2005 Chevrolet pickup was traveling north on Dunkin Road and a 2010 Jeep was traveling east on US 178.
  4. Police said the Jeep and the pickup truck collided and both vehicles flew to the left side of the road. While the pickup truck flew into the ditch, the Jeep rolled over.
  5. While both drivers were injured and taken to hospitals, the pickup driver died on Friday.
  6. The medical examiner identified the driver as Joseph T. Ray, 35, of Saluda.
