GEORGE TOWN, November 8 — The man who was arrested yesterday for stabbing a father and his daughter at an apartment in Air Itam Bandar Baru Farlim has been remanded for seven days from today to assist in the investigation of the case.

Acting North East police chief Supt Lee Swee Sake said the condition of the 32-year-old man, who was injured after cutting and stabbing himself in the incident, was now in a stable condition.

“Police have issued an arrest warrant for the man from today until November 14 to assist with the investigation and the suspect is currently still alive and in a stable condition and receiving treatment at Hospital Penang (HPP).

“The news of the man’s alleged death is fake news and police are also waiting for the suspect’s blood test to find out if he is positive for drugs or any other substance,” he said when contacted here today.

Yesterday, in an incident that broke out in an apartment in Air Itam, Bandar Baru Farlim, a father and his daughter, aged 62 and 30, who were thought to have been stabbed by a man, lost their lives.

According to Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, at 12.54am yesterday, police received information from the public that a person suspiciously carrying a knife was seen in the apartment.

Later, the police went to the scene and found three people, all residents of the neighborhood, lying in blood when they arrived in front of the apartment elevator. The father and daughter had lost their lives.

Meanwhile, according to the statement of one of the victim’s family members interviewed at the HPP Forensic Medicine Institute, the suspect who stabbed the father and daughter to death was a distant relative of the victim and frequently came to the family home.

“The suspect is a distant relative of the victim and her father. “He is believed to have feelings for the female victim and the suspect is also said to know the female victim’s daily routine,” he said.

Meanwhile, while the autopsy of the female victim has been completed, the autopsy of her father’s body has not been performed yet.

The remains of the father and daughter will be held for prayers at the Tuan Guru Mosque in Tanjong Tokong and later buried at the Tanjong Tokong Muslim Cemetery this evening. — Bernama
