Driver arrested for second crash into Springfield police cruiser

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – A man was arrested after hitting and running a police vehicle in Springfield.

Police records show that this is not the first time the suspect has done something like this.

Officers responding to a crash at the intersection of State and Chestnut Streets were shot in the back around 1:30 Saturday morning, according to Springfield Police.

After the driver of that car fled the scene, officers found and arrested 28-year-old Jose Morales-Velasquez on Chestnut Street.

Morales-Velasquez did not have a driver’s license and gave police a false name during the booking process.

After fingerprinting officers determined that Morales-Velasquez had an active warrant for an OUI arrest in 2022 where he crashed into a Springfield Police cruiser.
