Challenging arrest for road accident in 2023: Ravi Seneviratne’s FR dismissed – Breaking News

The Fundamental Rights petition filed by incumbent Ministry of Public Security Secretary Ravi Seneviratne challenging his arrest for a road accident that occurred in 2023 has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Senior DIG and Secretary of the Ministry of Public Safety Ravi Seneviratne had filed this petition challenging his arrest on October 28, 2023, following a road accident that occurred at Wellawatte Police Division.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices S. Thurairaja, AHMD Nawaz and Priyantha Fernando decided to dismiss the petition on the spot after allowing the preliminary objections of the Solicitor General challenging the maintainability of the petition.
