Robbery case that led to deadly SWAT raid in 2023 dismissed

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – An event that triggers a robbery case deadly SWAT raid He was dismissed in court Tuesday afternoon in Mobile.

Jason Jones, 21, faced a charge of 1st degree robbery.

Jones is accused of holding a man at gunpoint and stealing two firearms last January.

Court documents state the charges were dismissed because the victim did not want to press charges.

Last March, a Mobile SWAT team raided Jones’ Charles Street home after he was identified as a suspect.

The raid resulted in the death of his brother, Kordell, after police said Kordell pointed an AR-style rifle at officers as he jumped out the back window.

The highly publicized raid was one of four deadly encounters with Mobile Police in 2023.

This led to the release of former U.S. Attorney General Kenyen Brown’s report on the department.

The other defendant in the robbery, Christopher Kennedy, pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery in September.

Kennedy was sentenced to three years of formal probation.
