Times The $22 million show reportedly features music Elton John and lyrics by Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters – with a book by James Graham (Ink, Finding Neverland) – It received good reviews upon its initial release in London in 2022, but was plagued with poor reviews as it failed to find an audience in New York.

And so, the series, which opened on November 14, will go off the air on December 8, after 24 previews and 29 regular performances, which the newspaper described as a “disastrous” box office performance, including becoming the lowest-grossing series. It played last week on Broadway at the Palace Theatre, one of the largest theaters on the Great White Way, to a 37% empty house.

In last week’s review, Times show “soft, tonal confusionand “a discrete, oddly gentle musical.” But former REM singer Michael Stipe begged to differ. Writing on Instagram over the weekend, Stipe said he was impressed with the show’s opening night, calling it a “tournament” and “A very beautiful, touching and emotional narrative. On Tuesday, November 19, Shears shared a tribute to the show’s cast and crew on Instagram. “What a journey the last 12 years (and 12 weeks) have been. Acquisition Tammy Faye Being on Broadway has been one of the most exciting experiences of my life.” he wrote. “What a pleasure it is to work with this entire cast; Their resilience and talent are astounding… and beautiful to watch. Thank you to all the collaborators, cast and crew. I am extremely proud of the work we have done. “I believe musical theater is one of the most archaic forms of art: complex and managerially detailed.”

Sir John also wrote how happy he was for the Broadway release and praised the cast and crew for “exceptional hard work and talent…it has been a true honor to collaborate with all of you.”

John wrote the music for one of Broadway’s most enduring modern hits. The Lion KingIn addition to Tony and Grammy winners Aida, Billy Elliot: The Musical, The Devil Wears Prada And LestatThe latter also had a brief run on Broadway and closed in 2006 after 33 previews and 39 performances.
