UWS shooting: Man charged with attempted murder in New York shooting of ex-boss on Upper West Side

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — A person involved in the incident was detained on Friday morning. Shooting on the Upper West Side The incident caused chaos in the subway system on Thursday morning.

Eduardo Diaz, 42, of Queens, is charged with attempted murder, assault causing injury likely to cause death, reckless assault with a weapon causing serious injury and possession of a loaded firearm.

Authorities believe Diaz was a disgruntled former employee at a computer store near 68th Street and Columbus Boulevard who shot his former boss after he was fired.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside and is expected to survive. His workers were too excited to talk on camera but told Eyewitness News he was doing well.

The search for Diaz led to temporary subway delays in Manhattan as Diaz fled to the subway station at 72nd Street and Central Park West.

Authorities cut off the power so officers could walk the tracks in case the suspect was hiding in the subway tunnel north of the station.

Due to the investigation, some passengers had to be evacuated and trains A/B/C/D were delayed.

Some subway passengers also said they were told to lie on the floor of the train while police searched for the suspect.

Investigators believe the suspect may have left the subway via the emergency exit on 76th Street and continued to search for him in Central Park Thursday afternoon.

It is not yet clear where Diaz is located.
