Gadsden’s mother and 1-year-old child died in the crash; My loved ones say that my mother takes care of 8 children

GADSDEN, Ala.(WBRC) – A tragic accident claimed the lives of a Gadsden mother of five and her one-year-old child, leaving her family and friends devastated.

ALEA said the crash happened Tuesday morning on U.S. 411 near Pine Cone Road, about a mile south of Leesburg in Cherokee County. Investigators say Odell’s Nissan left the road and struck a tree.

Nancy Colvin, Odell’s godmother, said Odell went to work and sled when he dropped the kids off at daycare. Odell and her one-year-old son died at the scene, investigators said. His three-year-old nephew was said to have survived the crash.

Colvin says Odell and her husband have five children of their own and will be raising three more.

He created a GoFundMe page helping the family. Colvin says everyone is still in shock about what happened.

“They’re going to be on a very long journey. Please pray for all those kids and her husband and her mother. They’re going to need it. They need all the support they can get right now,” Colvin said.

Odell’s business family, Collinsville Healthcare and Rehab, posted about the loss on Facebook, saying, “His kindness, laughter, and unwavering love touched the lives of so many people.”
