How will the rest of the season affect the careers of these 6 Bruins?

BOSTON — Bruins Frankly I hope so Changing coaches in two months Entering the 2024-25 season is a fate-changing move for the franchise, which is trying to remain elite with its current core of players.

But the team’s results over the rest of the season could have lasting impacts on the careers of many Bruins on the ice, on the bench, and in the front office.

Aspect Joe Sacco The era is upon us, here are six men whose careers could be greatly affected by their success or failure:

He wanted another chance to be a manager and now he got that chance. After a playoff birth and three sub-.500 seasons in his four years leading the Avalanche, it took Sacco a long time to find another head coaching job. Numerous coaches were better the second time around, including Claude Julien and Cassidy.

Sacco’s performance will change his image for better or worse.

If he and the Bruins stick with the game, he could get the job permanently. But if they falter and struggle, it will be another black spot on their resume.

Don Sweeney

With Montgomery gone SweeneyNext in the line of fire is the Bruins general manager. If a coaching change doesn’t turn Boston’s tide around, the roster makeup will come under increased scrutiny. Not only is the team struggling, but there aren’t many viable prospects in the AHL that could help get the team going.

In addition, Sweeney fired three coaches, including Cassidy, who immediately went to Vegas and won the Stanley Cup.

The Bruins have been consistently very good throughout his tenure, but that will only keep him around for so long, especially if they miss the playoffs.

Sweeney reiterated in his preseason statement Wednesday that the Bruins are negotiating a contract extension with Jim Montgomery. But after a slow start to the year, Montgomery took a pink slip in lieu of this extension.

That goes for the Bruins captain, as Sweeney said the team hopes to sign Marchand to an extension as well. But he slowly started to recover from offseason surgeries. If Boston and Marchand continue to struggle, could they let Marchand walk away? The Bruins were also unsentimental towards former captain Zdeno Chara, who wants to return.

Trent Frederic

Frederic chose a bad year to have a bad year. As unrestricted free agency approached, he struggled with just three goals and three assists. It’s currently at -11. Disappointing numbers could cost him dearly in his next deal. Perhaps more shockingly, if the Bruins are still hanging around as the trade deadline approaches, Frederic is a candidate to be traded in a trade.

Morgan Geekie

He’s in a similar situation to Frederic, but will only be an unrestricted player after next year. Still, the disappointment after last season is costing him dearly. It may also be the seller’s possibility of an exchange at the deadline.

Jim Montgomery

It may be better for the Bruins to fire Montgomery early than to let him go in January. His resume in Boston looks like two great regular seasons and one slow start. There are plenty of teams that aren’t worried about his playoff record. Making the playoffs feels like an accomplishment.

He is now one of the best candidates for any open position in an organization looking to seek an outside replacement.

If the Bruins struggle the rest of this season and fail to make the playoffs, his stock will get another boost because it will look like the problems aren’t actually his fault.
