Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has handed over to their families 76 Kano children who were released by the Federal High Court, Abuja, for treason.

Two of them were promised automatic authorization by the state government, while the others were returned to schools.

Children arrested by the police during the #EndMalGovernance protest in Kano on August 1 suffered hunger and indescribable hardship for three months in police custody in Abuja.

Immediately after he was discharged and pardoned by President Bola Tinubu, Yusuf took the youths back and admitted them to the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital for medical rehabilitation.

Yusuf, who handed over the children to their families on Thursday, applauded Tinubu’s pardon and expedited their release in court.

The governor, who deplored the destruction of properties worth billions of naira during the protest, was represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, who stressed that his administration has never supported or instructed any group to attack.

He therefore admonished the youth to be responsible citizens of Nigeria and proud ambassadors of Kano in their education and other endeavours, henceforth.

Yusuf challenged his parents to be conscious of their parental role and take full responsibility for the welfare of their wards.

He insisted that the government would not condone any behavior that would incite unrest in the state.

Earlier, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Umar Haruna Doguwa, announced the provision of cash support of N50,000 each by Bafarawa Foundation to each of the 76 children.

He explained that one university undergraduate student was offered a job opportunity as soon as he graduated, while the other student, who had completed the NEC program, would be perfected as soon as possible.

A representative of the parents, Nura Ahmad Muhammad, praised the state government for the rescue of their children and other private agencies and individual efforts during and after the release of their children.
