Kerala High Court rejects bail to police officer accused of raping minor Dalit girl

The order was passed on a petition filed by Chandrasekharan challenging the Sessions Court order denying him bail.

According to the prosecution, Chandrasekharan was teaching at the school where he met the surviving 14-year-old boy. Allegedly, he took her to a house, promising her a birthday treat, and started raping her.

He has been charged under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) punishing rape as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO Act).

Since the minor belonged to a scheduled caste and Chandrasekharan did not, he was also charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
