Arrest in memory of September 11: Assisi St. Man accused of stealing rose gold-plated metal from St. Francis Church

CHELSEA (WABC) — Police arrested a man accused of stealing a gold-plated rose from the 9/11 memorial.

21-year-old Bronx resident Deikel Alcantara was arrested Friday evening and charged with grand larceny.

Authorities said he entered the Church of St. Francis of Assisi on Wednesday afternoon and stole the piece from the monument.

The priest said Alcantara had frequented the church in the past and had to be removed from the church before.
