Minister said those evacuated from Mount Lewotobi are in good health and safe

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Choiri Fauzi assured that the health and safety of the victims of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption in East Flores are good.

He made these remarks during a visit to an evacuation post set up in Bokang Wolomatang village in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.

“My presence here is a kind of empathy and solidarity. Even though we are far away in Jakarta, we feel what you are going through here,” Fauzi said, according to the official statement released on Saturday. he said.

When the Minister arrived at his post, he was warmly welcomed with a joyful song performance by children and vulnerable groups participating in trauma healing activities. Despite the hot weather, children’s willingness to participate in psychosocial activities remained high.

During his visit, Fauzi emphasized the importance of ensuring the health and well-being of children, women and the elderly in refugee camps.

“We make sure that children are in good health and well-being. Likewise, for women and the elderly, we want to make sure that everyone is well and healthy,” he said.

According to Fauzi, cooperation and mutual assistance between parties was evident in the disaster response, starting from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), National Armed Forces (TNI), National Police (Polri), ministries, institutions and volunteers.

At the evacuation point, they distributed dignity kits to women, children and the elderly affected by the explosion, which included specific items such as equipment for children 0-2 years old and 5-7 years old, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women.

“This kit is designed to meet the special needs of disaster victims, especially children and the elderly, so that they can feel more comfortable in such emergency situations,” he explained.

As of 20:00 WITA (GMT+8) on November 22, 2024, the number of refugees affected by the explosion on Mount Lewotobi reached 12,962.

Most of the refugees are currently staying at 6 evacuation points and their number is estimated at 5,599. Meanwhile, 7,363 people took shelter in other residents’ homes or with their families.
