Security reason for Tinubu to buy new presidential jet – Onanuga

The Presidency has explained the reason for procuring a new presidential jet for President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said the current jet was purchased to prevent the president from being involved in a plane crash due to malfunctions.

Onanuga recalled that he spoke with National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu about the faulty aircraft and condemned the high maintenance rate.

Appearing on Channels Television’s Inside Sources program, Onanuga said: “People should try to prioritize the security of the president. I’m not sure anyone would want our president to be blown up. We want his security so he can hand over power to whoever wants to take over from him.”

The health status of the Presidential Air Fleet has been a cause for concern lately.

In May, a malfunctioning presidential jet prevented Vice President Kashim Shettima from attending the 2024 U.S.-Africa Business Summit hosted by the Africa Corporate Council.

Last December, a Falcon 900B presidential aircraft was put up for sale, with the Nigerian Air Force asking interested parties to bid for the purchase of the aircraft.
