Ayushman Bharat expands to include citizens above 70 years of age; Basic documents required to prove eligibility

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) is a government health insurance scheme that provides comprehensive medical cover to eligible citizens. Initially, this program was only available to people under the age of 70, but has now been expanded to include citizens aged 70 and over, ensuring the provision of healthcare to a wider population.

Under the revamped scheme, every family is eligible to receive health benefits of up to Rs 5 lakh annually. The main objective of this expansion is to offer health security to approximately six crore senior citizens in approximately 4.5 crore families in India.

Things to keep in mind while registering for Ayushman Bharat

According to Aadhaar card information, all citizens aged 70 and above will now be able to benefit from health insurance under this plan. Age verification is done through Aadhaar card and beneficiaries are required to ensure that their age meets the eligibility criteria.

The issuance of Ayushman Card will allow these senior citizens to access medical services under the scheme. This card is an important tool that will enable elderly individuals to access health services effectively.

The only document required to enroll in the Ayushman Bharat health plan is the Aadhaar card. Aadhaar card verification is mandatory to complete the e-KYC process. A senior citizen without an Aadhaar card cannot enroll in an Ayushman health plan or get an Ayushman card.

The registration process is simple and can be completed online through the official portal or through the Ayushman Bharat app available on the Google Play Store. The online system simplifies the registration process for senior citizens and provides ease of access.

Once the registration of a senior family member is completed, other eligible family members can be added to the system using the “Add Member” option without the need for a separate application.
