Markwayne Mullin ‘absolutely’ believes Hegseth made sexual assault accusation

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) said Sunday that he “absolutely” believes Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth about the person who accused him of sexual assault.

Mullin joined CNN’s Dana Bash for “State of the Union,” where he discussed: President-elect Trump’s election and the allegations surrounding his candidacy.

The two bickered a bit, with Mullin enthusiastically supporting Hegseth and saying he had spoken to the candidate about it. recently released police report It details a 2017 sexual encounter with a woman who alleged assault.

Mullin began talking about the police report and argued on Hegseth’s behalf that it was actually the woman who took the couple to Hegseth’s hotel room that night.

Bash interjected to note that Mullin “sort of” answered his question; which was that he believed the story was Hegseth’s side rather than the accuser’s.

“It definitely is,” Mullin said. “He was not charged. He kind of wasn’t even charged. No crime was committed in this. “The police left everything there.”

“Unfortunately in today’s world you can be accused of anything and then… especially if it’s something like this, you’re automatically presumed guilty,” Mullin continued.

He noted that he read the police report “from cover to cover” and determined that no crime had been committed.

“The American people gave President Trump a mandate. “It’s a mandate because they want to change the way government works,” Mullin said. “Government works for the party, not the people, and President Trump is putting people in there who will make change.”

A police report released last week details a sexual encounter between Hegseth and a woman in California; Hegseth claimed Hegseth took her phone, pressured her, and blocked the door with his body so she couldn’t leave.
