Five people, including four women, were killed and four others were seriously injured when a jeep collided head-on with a bus in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police said.

While the injured were taken to the trauma center of King George Medical University College, Lucknow, the bodies were sent for autopsy.

Anil Kumar Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Mallawa police station, said the impact of the collision could be gauged from the fact that the jeep broke into multiple pieces and its parts were found scattered about 50 meters away from the accident scene.

He said the incident took place when the passengers carrying the Jeep were coming to Hardoi from Kanpur after attending a wedding around 3 am on Monday morning.

He said that the deceased and injured had gone to attend a wedding ceremony in Kanpur’s Baghauli area on Sunday night.

The official said that efforts were being made to identify the dead and injured since all of them were family members. He said that their families were informed about the issue. event.

The SHO said that four women and a jeep driver were among the dead.

The occupants of the jeep were residents of Seudahi village and Gauri Kursath district in Hardoi.

Police stated that a detailed investigation into the incident is continuing.
