Washington Commander Terry McLaurin Focused on the Lesson of the Cowboys, Not the Salvation of the Titans

As soon as the game is over Washington CommandersTalk of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 11 loss has started to shift towards the long layoff and how much time the team has to shake off that bad feeling against the Dallas Cowboys.

I’m following someone else now Commanders While the losses at the hands of the Cowboys and the even worse emotions that come with it have some talking about whether this team can get a well-deserved win against the Tennessee Titans, it will be critical for them to take the time to fully digest their third straight loss. First.

washington receiver Terry McLaurin emphasized this fact in his postgame conversation with local media following the Week 12 loss.

“I don’t want to look too much at Sunday because next week Sunday will take care of itself,” McLaurin said. “We’ve got to fix some things in the film room, so we’re already looking forward to watching the film and, as (head coach Dan Quinn) says, ‘Tell the Truth Monday.’ So we all have to look. We look at ourselves in the mirror and decide what we can do better.” “

According to McLaurin, the Commanders need to get better as a team, especially on offense, where the team was unable to score on two starting possessions at Dallas’ end of the field after their defensive and special teams play and special teams set the group up for early success.

The message was common throughout the organization on Sunday night that everyone should come together to solve problems. From coaches to players, the unit is focused on repairing the unit, but doing so will require some tightly focused individual improvements.

“I just want to continue to control what I can and make sure we have the right attitude and approach going into practices and games,” McLaurin said. “I try to make plays when the ball comes to me and I just control that aspect of my job and try to provide a spark as much as I can. …Offensively, we’ve got to do a better job of staying on the floor. I think that was our strength in the first half of the season and it’s not like that right now. So “We’ve got to figure out how to get that back into our offense because when we’re up-tempo, ‘Staying on the field allows us to protect the play.’ The playbook is clear and we continue to put pressure on the defense.”

McLaurin also said that no one is challenging this team right now. They are still confident in what they can do individually and as a team.

While this may not have been true physically after the game on Sunday (there were plenty of heads hanging in the home locker room after the loss) it is true in terms of mentality. Even several players who put the loss squarely on their own shoulders, kicker Austin Seibert and safety Jeremy Reaves, reiterated that they are better and can be better.

So don’t expect this Washington team to give up on itself, even if some are starting to push it out of competitive discussions just a few weeks ago. If every Commanders player and coach on the roster adopts the approach McLaurin conveys here, we’ll have another chance to see the old production return in Week 13 when the time comes.
