Patriots' Jabrill Peppers removed from NFL commissioner's exempt list

Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers has been removed from the NFL commissioners’ exemption list, the league announced Monday.

The woman who accused Peppers of assault is demanding $10.5 million from Patriots security, Brofsky said in court Friday.

The plaintiff’s attorneys, Douglas H. Wigdor and David E. Gottlieb, issued a statement Friday denying they were seeking that amount.

“We can confirm that Mr. Peppers’ attorney has asked us to meet to discuss a potential settlement and has asked us to forward a proposed settlement,” Wigdor and Gottlieb said in a statement. “We submitted an offer that included an apology from Mr. Peppers, a financial contribution to an organization that supports domestic abuse, a commitment from Mr. Peppers to receive intensive counseling, and a monetary payment for our client’s pain and suffering. “We did not submit an offer of $10.5 million to avoid a civil lawsuit, and no amount is sought in the civil case other than the amount agreed by the jury.”

Patriots safeties Jaylinn Hawkins, Marte Mapu and Dell Pettus have taken on larger roles in Peppers’ absence. The 3-9 Patriots went 2-6 without Peppers on their defense.

“I want to be clear that any act of domestic violence is unacceptable to us,” head coach Jerod Mayo said in October. “As a team, we wholeheartedly oppose all forms of domestic violence, whether as a player or staff. I know the position of the organization which I fully support. That said, I think Jabrill needs to go through the system, continue to go through the legal process, and we’ll see how that plays out. …As a father of three daughters, I absolutely understand the seriousness of the allegations and I hope they are not true.
