First of two licensing lotteries for medical marijuana dispensaries held in Ky.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WSAZ) – Governor Andy Beshear announced the results of the first of the state’s two licensing lotteries for medical marijuana dispensaries.

During the event held at the Kentucky Lottery Corporation in Louisville, 36 applicants were selected to receive medical marijuana dispensary licenses via a random number generator.

“The Kentucky Office of Medical Marijuana received 4,998 applications, including 4,075 dispensary applications,” he said. SamFlynnExecutive director of the Kentucky Office of Medical Marijuana. “Candidates selected in today’s license lottery will have 15 days to pay their license fees. “After the fee is paid, the office will issue a license to that business.”

The drawing drew four participants from each of the following dispensary regions:

Four candidates were selected for each district. While some businesses are selected to operate in the same district, only one dispensary can be established in each district.

  • Region 3: NortheastConsists of: Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Nicholas, Robertson and Rowan counties.
  • Region 4: South CentralConsists of: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren counties.
  • District 5: CumberlandConsists of Bell, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Harlan, Knox, Laurel, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Wayne and Whitley counties.
  • Region 6: MountainConsists of: Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Powell and Wolfe counties.
  • Zone 7: Pennyrile: Consists of Caldwell, Christian, Hopkins, Lyon, Muhlenberg, Todd and Trigg counties.
  • Region 8: Western Kentucky: It consists of Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, McCracken and Marshall counties.
  • District 9: Lincoln Road: It consists of Adair, Breckinridge, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor and Washington counties.
  • Region 10: Northern KentuckyConsists of Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton counties.
  • District 11: Green River: Consists of Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union and Webster counties.

The second license lottery for dispensaries will be held on December 16.
