TDOT suspends all lane closures on interstates and state highways for Thanksgiving travelers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation says it will do its part to ensure Thanksgiving travelers are not delayed by construction on Tennessee roads.

Due to expected high traffic volumes across the state, TDOT will cease all lane closures on interstates and state highways beginning at noon on Wednesday, November 27.

All construction-related lane closures will resume at 6 a.m. on Monday, December 2.

“Thanksgiving is often the most traveled holiday of the year,” said Lieutenant Governor and TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley. “Stopping roadwork during this time will provide maximum capacity on our highways and help alleviate congestion, especially during Wednesdays and Sundays when travel is predicted to be busiest. TDOT’s RELIEF Truck drivers will work through the holiday weekend to assist with incidents that may occur on the interstate. “Be careful; step aside, slow down, that’s the law.”

Although all lane closures have been halted, workers may still be on site at some construction sites, officials said. Additionally, long-term lane closures will continue on some projects for the safety of drivers.
