Bemidji man guilty of sharing sexually explicit material about children on dark web

A Bemidji man was convicted Wednesday of sharing and receiving material depicting child sexual abuse on the dark web.

After a three-day trial, a federal jury found 47-year-old Craig Myran guilty of two counts of advertising child pornography, one count of distributing child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

According to court records, Myran has been actively participating in a “dark web” site where images and videos of child sexual abuse are discussed and shared since at least 2022.

Myran has shared more than a thousand posts on this site using an account; at least one of which requested specific files of child sexual abuse material from other users and shared files of sexual abuse material with other users. .

FBI agents executed a warrant to search Myran’s apartment on December 8, 2022. They found multiple hard drives and a cell phone containing evidence linking Myran to his unique account on the dark web site.

Some of the material found included files of child abuse material he shared and solicited, a message directed to his unique alias, and thousands of sexually explicit images of children.

A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date.
