Reno man sentenced to 247 years in prison for child sex crimes

A Reno man was sentenced to 247 years in prison for a series of sex crimes against children, the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Jaime Oseguera-Vega, 48, was found guilty of 10 felonies. The sentences will be consecutive, meaning Oseguera-Vega will serve what is effectively a life sentence back to back.

Following an anonymous tip to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in March 2020, the victim disclosed that Oseguera-Vega began touching her inappropriately at age 6 and sexually assaulted her at age 8.

The sexual assaults continued for a decade. Oseguera-Vega threatened to kill the victim if she reported the attacks.

The victim was eventually able to flee the state and reach law enforcement. He gave a statement to the prosecutor’s office during the hearing.

Oseguera-Vega was convicted of 10 crimes:

  • 5 sexual assaults on children under the age of 14
  • Two counts of sexual assault on a child under 16
  • Two counts of sexual assault
  • An incest issue

The longest prison sentence served in Nevada was for Raymond L. Shuman, who was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the December 1957 murder of a Sparks truck driver. Shuman was convicted of murder for dousing a friend while in prison. He burned the prisoner with a flammable liquid and set him on fire. Shuman spent 59 years, 7 months and 20 days in prison until his death in 2018 at the age of 83.
