‘Possible medical emergency’ causes driver to lose control and crash into building

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A vehicle crashed into the pool building of an apartment complex in Shawnee Wednesday afternoon.

Just before 2:30 p.m., the Shawnee Police Department, Shawnee Fire Department and Johnson County MED-ACT responded to the 6700 block of Lackman Road.

Police said the single-vehicle crash was likely caused by a “possible medical emergency.”

As the driver was heading south on Lackman, they lost control, left the road and went airborne.

The vehicle crashed into the pool building and then came to rest against a tree.

“Shawnee firefighters used extrication tools to extricate the driver from the heavily damaged vehicle,” police said. shared on social media.

The driver was taken to an area hospital and his condition was “stable,” according to police.

Police also said a passenger in the vehicle and a pedestrian in the pool building suffered minor injuries.
