Nebraska man pleads no contest in Knox County stabbing

KNOX COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) – A Nebraska man has entered a plea for a stabbing reported in 2023.

Court documents show Kaden Spencer, 21, pleaded no contest to attempted first-degree assault, a Class 2A felony. A no-contest plea means Spencer does not admit or deny the charges against him, but accepts the punishment associated with the charge.

The charge stems from a stabbing reported in June 2023 near the Knox County town of Verdigre.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement They called 911 around 11:20 p.m., and when they arrived in a rural area northeast of Verdigre They found a man with multiple stab wounds. That man was identified as 33-year-old Jon Lucas of Creighton, Nebraska, and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital.

Court documents show Spencer, a Creighton resident at the time of the stabbing, surrendered and admitted to the stabbing. He was originally charged with first-degree assault, but the charge was changed as part of his plea.

His sentencing date is set for February 25, 2025, and he could face up to 20 years in prison. Under Nebraska law, the maximum penalty for Class 2A is 20 years in prison and there is no minimum sentence.
