Fatal shooting looks like accident

HIGH POINT — The fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man in the northwest High Point neighborhood on Oct. 19 appears to have been an accident, according to a police incident report and a 911 call from a witness at the scene.

Hasson Dwayne Williams of Greensboro died from a single gunshot wound to the head at his home in the 400 block of Ridgebrooke Drive. A High Point Police Department incident report shows several people in the home said the two men were using a 9mm Glock handgun when it was fired.

In a recording of an emotional eight-minute call to 911, a woman at the home told emergency dispatchers that Williams had been shot “accidentally.” The woman said Williams and another man were holding the gun when the gun was fired.

The distraught woman cried as she spoke, telling the officer Williams was barely breathing.

“Oh my God,” the woman wailed. “I need to call his mother.”

There were loud voices and chaotic noise in the background of the call. While the ambulance was on its way, paramedics tried to calm the woman.

While police provided few details about the fatal shooting in a press release on Thursday, they said the case had been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation because a person at the scene was related to a local elected official. named.

Enterprise requested the incident report and the 911 recording, which are public records, on Thursday. They were released on Friday.
