Mehlawat (38) was allegedly involved in a case before attempted murder and Arms Act, 2019. The case against him is registered at Vasant Kunj North police station. Four youths, aged approximately 17 and residents of Mehrauli, were also identified as suspects in last Friday’s case.
At 5.45 pm on Friday, police received a PCR call regarding the stabbing of two boys in Gaushala village of Kishangarh. Police teams arriving at the scene found blood and an empty 7.65 mm bullet casing at the scene. Local investigations revealed that the two injured children were taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where they were identified as 18-year-old Saurabh Yadav and a 16-year-old boy, who was declared dead on arrival.
Saurabh told the police that he visited his grandmother in Kishangarh, where he met his friends Kunal, Uday and Tushar, who live in Mehrauli Ward 2, at 3 pm.
They took a ride on two scooters and reached Gaushala at 5 pm, where armed boys ambushed them. One of the attackers fired a bullet that hit Saurabh in the back, causing him to fall. The attackers then chased and stabbed his friend multiple times before escaping.
An investigation revealed that the attackers were youths acting on the instructions of Mehlawat, a resident of Kishangarh, whom the children knew.
According to the dead boy’s uncle, when the crime was committed, his nephew went to the gaushala (cow shelter) with his friends to feed the cows. “They shot my nephew and injured his friend,” he said. “He was brutally murdered,” he said. The uncle said about six to seven shots were fired and the boy was stabbed half a dozen times.
When asked why, the uncle said that one of the attackers tried to involve his nephew in illegal activities, but he denied it. The uncle said, “The attacker put pressure on the 16-year-old boy, which led to an argument. He even threatened my nephew.”
The victim is survived by his father, mother and three sisters.
