The Yankees’ Game 3 roster is once again ignoring an obvious move that could boost their offense

A lot of things went wrong for New York Yankees It’s the first two games of this World Series, but if you’re looking for a place to start, it should be the offense. Of course, Aaron Boone’s bullpen management… less than ideal To say the least, but if New York’s high-priced lineup could offer any buffer, this wouldn’t be such an obvious problem. Yankees instead. scored five runs In Games 1 and 2, he went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position, leaving 17 men on the field. Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton continue to do their jobs, but everyone else has disappeared; most importantly Aaron Judge. I can’t stop going out Right now.

It’s clear that something needs to change. And we are facing a must-win Game 3 and a 0-2 series deficit. Los Angeles DodgersNow is the time to make this change. But Boone apparently disagrees: If the Yankees are going to come back and win a 28th championship, they’re going to do it without changing a thing.

Boone’s Game 3 roster is almost exactly the same as Games 1 and 2; the only difference is that Jose Trevino replaces the struggling (at least at the plate) catcher Austin Wells. Judge ranks third between Soto and Stanton. But the most prominent option is at the bottom of the rankings.

Alex Verdugo homered in left field for the Yankees for the 12th time in 12 games this October. So how did he reward his unwavering faith? A .184/.262/.237 slash line with just two extra-base hits. unbalanced defense in the outfield. He attacks just about anything and looks like he hasn’t made hard contact in weeks; It’s as if the Yankees were choosing to accept the chance to get an out and a runner on Gleyber Torres, Soto, and Judge because they were too scared to swing for the fences.

If Verdugo was the Yankees’ only viable option, that would be one thing. However, former top prospect Jasson Dominguez was included on the team’s World Series roster, likely because the team thought he could help them at some point in this series. That moment seems to be right now, with Los Angeles’ Walker Buehler facing a right-handed pitcher and desperately needing an offensive spark. Dominguez struggled to qualify in September but far They’re more likely to rush Verdugo than he is right now, and when you consider how inconsistently Verdugo has been doing the little things in these playoffs, any calls for veteran stability go out the window. Now is exactly the time to throw caution to the wind, but Boone insists he’s not risking his team’s season by playing it safe.
