DULUTH — A man faces multiple charges following a shooting this summer in the city’s Central Hillside neighborhood.

Andre Deon Woods, 56, of Duluth, is accused of opening fire on a crowd following an argument on Aug. 24, attacking and wounding Trever Claude Brown, 30.

Woods was also shot by an unidentified man during the fight and died in St. Louis on Oct. 8, according to court documents. He remained hospitalized until transported to the St. Louis County Jail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Duluth police officers

I received a call around 2:15 a.m. from the 100 block of East Third Avenue.

Eyewitnesses reported that 10-12 shots were fired and a screaming person was put into a car.

Officers stopped a Chrysler traveling westbound from the scene on Third Street. Woods, a passenger, had gunshot wounds to his torso and upper arm.

Meanwhile, Brown entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his groin. X-rays revealed obvious bullet fragments in the hip area. He told officers he was shot during an argument between Woods and the unknown man.

Police later arrived at 119 E. Third St. He obtained security camera video showing an argument involving three men on the porch of No. 119. The unidentified person was heard goading Woods, who briefly stepped into the entryway before reappearing later.

The video shows Woods firing a handgun twice, once from the porch and once after coming down the stairs before walking away from the building out of camera view.

From another angle, the unknown man can be seen firing three shots toward Woods, knocking him to the ground. Woods also fired about seven shots before charging into the Chrysler, according to the video.

Police said a gun was never found, but eight .22-caliber bullet casings were found in the area where Woods fired. The video reportedly showed at least eight people in the direction he fired.

Woods has an extensive criminal history, including third-degree assault in 2011, simple robbery in 2013, threats of violence in 2014 and second-degree burglary in 2016; all of which prohibit him from owning a firearm.

Aspirus St. The emergency guardianship petition filed by St. Luke’s states that Woods “smelt strongly of alcohol and also tested positive for cocaine” when he was admitted. He underwent emergency surgery with injuries such as a ruptured liver, shattered ribs and a fractured spine. Some lead fragments had to be left in place.

Woods was charged this month with second-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, reckless use of a firearm in a municipality and intentional use of a firearm to endanger safety.

Following his release from the hospital, Judge Nicole Hopps set bail at $100,000. Woods’ next hearing date was set for November 5.
