Taking center stage with Jayden Lennon | News, Sports, Jobs

According to Jayden Lennon, it’s not about effectiveness or recognition; It’s about the connection that matters.

The Fort Dodge High School senior built her program around her love of art, but along the way, she also formed friendships and relationships that gave her the opportunity to form special connections.

“Being a part of a marching band has been an amazing experience that I am so glad I got to be a part of during my time at FDSH.” said Lennon. “To me, marching band isn’t about the instruments or the music, it’s about the people. “In marching band you have opportunities to make friends and connections and be a part of something bigger than yourself, and you can look back and say, ‘This is where I belong.’”

As captain of the All-American FDSH Marching Band, Lennon rose to a leadership role.

“When I first got the role of brass captain in the marching band, I was very scared.” said Lennon. “But the longer I stayed in this role, the more I realized that I was doing the same thing as everyone else, but with some extra things to do here and there.”

During the walk, Lennon steals the enthusiasm of the walk. During the concert and jazz band season, he plays concert euphonium, bari saxophone and trombone.

Her schedule also includes a cappella choir, large group speech, a musical, and being the manager of the girls’ volleyball team.

Lennon was also selected as an alternate for the All-State choir.

“My favorite part of choir is the connection.” said Lennon. “When you sing in a choir where everyone is on the same page and everyone is trying to achieve the same goal, it’s really special.

“My favorite part of singing is emotion; as a singer, you can display so much emotion in your music that it can give a whole new meaning to a piece.”

Lennon is also an officer of the FDSH’s Artists Club.

“Being in the Artists Club allowed me to make more friends and meet new people” said Lennon. “As an officer, I love meeting groups of young people who are nervous about what they want to do because I have been in their shoes myself, and I want to show them that if I can go that far in performing, they can do it too.

“When I perform, I get into my own little bubble and go for it.”

As his final year as a Dodger comes to an end, Lennon will miss a lot of his school days.

“Being in musicals was the biggest eye-opener for me because I didn’t join choir until freshman year and it was something completely new to me.” said Lennon. “But when you first start doing it you’re like this”How will this happen?

“But as you get closer to the performance date, you see everything locking into place and all the little pieces coming together into this magnificent big performance, you can’t help but look back with pride.”

Lennon just plans to move forward and maintain friendships with everyone around him.

“What I’m most looking forward to in my senior year is continuing to strengthen relationships and develop those around me, and of course, my final musical.” said Lennon. “The reason I do so many activities is because of people, I love meeting new people and making stronger connections.”

Lennon’s time as a Dodger was helped by the people he surrounded himself with.

“Some of my biggest influences have been my family.” said Lennon. “Also Mr. (Matt) Drees, Mr. (Al) Paulson and Ms. (Lindey) Krug.

“They are all people who push me to keep going and make me who I am.”
