Man who repeatedly raped his partner’s grandchildren on TVM was sentenced to double life imprisonment

Thiruvananthapuram: The Special Prompt Court (POCSO) on Wednesday sentenced a man to double life imprisonment for repeated sexual assault on his live-in partner’s underage grandson. Judge Rekha R also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the 68-year-old accused.

According to the prosecution, the man sexually assaulted the then six-year-old girl and her nine-year-old sister on various occasions between September 2020 and November 2021 at their grandmother’s rented houses in Varikkamukku and Murukkumpuzha.

In its sentencing decision, the court noted that the victim and her sister stayed in a nursing home due to the heinous crime committed by the defendant against them. He also said it “shattered their childhood” and “subjected them to extreme misery and deplorable conditions while their mother was abroad”.

“Due to the heinous crime committed by the defendant, the children lost the friendship of their grandmother. Considering the heinous acts committed by the defendant against the victim, who was still a teenager, it is not possible to accept the age of the defendant as a mitigating factor. This court has decided that the iron fingers of the law should bind the defendant and deter potential criminals from committing similar crimes and “He is of the opinion that the maximum penalty should be given to send a strong message to society,” he said.

The court ruled that if the price is recovered from the convict, this price will be paid as compensation to the survivor. It was also said that their lifespans would continue at the same time. The prosecutor said that in addition to sexually assaulting minors, the man also showed them pornographic videos on various days during the same period. The prosecutor said that their mother was abroad during this period. According to PTI, the court will announce its separate verdict on November 5 in the case of the accused sexually assaulting the older child.
