Kamala Harris’ Closing Argument Ellipse Speech Against “Revenge-Obsessed” Donald Trump, One Week Until the Election

A week from today, the first Election Night results will be just hours away, but tonight Kamala Harris plans to double down on her criticism and disdain for Donald Trump on the spot where the former president incited the MAGA mob to attack the Capitol. January 6, 2021.

Speaking tonight at the Ellipse in Washington DC, the Vice President said of his rival, who declared himself a “dictator on Day One”: “For a decade Donald Trump tried to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other. “That’s him.”

In this margin of error and tight race, according to quotes provided by the campaign, the Vice President means to say in his closing remarks, “But America, I’m here tonight to say: that’s not who we are.”

If nothing else, the symbolism of Harris’ speech, delivered around 4pm PT/7pm ET at what some consider the scene of Trump’s biggest crime almost four years ago, is a glaring contrast. Local officials estimate the crowd tonight will be around 20,000. But organizers and party insiders say that number could be as high as 50,000.

As Harris makes her near-final appeal to voters, the “unstable” and “revenge-obsessed” Trump will be trying to clean up the mess of his Oct. 27 Madison Square Garden rally in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

Earlier today in Florida, Trump said his New York rally was full of “love in the room” while criticizing Harris for presenting voters with “a campaign of destruction…a campaign of absolute hatred.”

Harris plans to address her contrast with the three-time GOP nominee, according to statements her campaign released Tuesday.

“I pledge to seek common ground and common-sense solutions to make your lives better,” Harris told the crowd tonight. “I’m not trying to score political points. I’m trying to make progress, I promise to listen to the experts. To those who will be affected by the decisions I make. And to the people who disagree with me. Unlike Donald Trump, I don’t believe people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail.”

“I will give them a place at my table. And I promise to be the President for all Americans,” Harris is scheduled to tell Ellipse, using language she used at campaign events last month. “Always putting country above party and self.”

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will be with the Vice President tonight. Our fellow president, Governor Tim Walz, will not be in DC, but instead will be on the campaign trail in Georgia. Considered an election liability by some Democrats, President Joe Biden will attend a “campaign call” at the White House near the Ellipse, according to his schedule. Biden won’t be at the rally, no matter how close he is.

“This is for him,” POTUS said in Maryland today, explaining why he won’t be attending his chosen successor’s rally.

Some political actors and pundits have pressed the Vice President to talk less about Trump and his sins and more about his plans for the future to help move the needle. But from what we’ve seen, today’s wide-ranging speech certainly continues the same line of attack that Harris has been pursuing for the past month.

In the background of all this, some sort of cross-pollination seems to be developing between the Vice President and podcast superstar Joe Rogan.

Days after leaving his wide-ranging and sometimes unintentionally funny three-hour interview with Trump, the formerFear Factor The host says the Harris campaign requested that Rogan fly to the Vice President’s location for an hour-long chat. Rogan wants Harris to sit with him in his studio in Austin for three hours.

The two sides could reach a deal at the last minute, but time is running out before the Nov. 5 election and nearly 50 million Americans have already voted.
