Jacob Krall, 21, was found guilty of one count of assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child following a two-week trial. He was also found not guilty of endangering the welfare of a child.

Krall injured the child in his home on March 19, 2023. The prosecution said in its opening argument that Krall caused severe head trauma while caring for her son. The boy’s mother, Krall’s ex-girlfriend, lives in Granville and they share custody.

A CT scan taken at the hospital revealed he had a subdural hematoma and internal bleeding and ruptured blood vessels in his eyes and cheeks, according to prosecutors.

The baby remained in the hospital for more than a week for treatment.

Special Victims Bureau Chief Jennifer Buckley said in her opening statement that the prosecution could not explain exactly how these injuries occurred. However, he said evidence could be found of holes in the walls and door of the bedroom where he cared for the baby. Police also found marijuana, a vape pen and marijuana particles in the baby’s crib, according to Buckley.

District Attorney Karen Heggen credited the teamwork that led to this conviction. More than 100 pieces of evidence and 16 witnesses, including four treating doctors and a forensic nurse, were called to the stand.

“Bureau Chief Buckley meticulously presented to the jury complex medical and physical evidence showing that Defendant Krall caused physical injuries to the three-month-old victim, including bilateral subdural hematomas and bilateral retinal hemorrhages. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office investigation determined that the person who caused the infant’s injuries was He proved that he was the defendant.”

In his opening statement, Krall’s defense attorney, Joe Hammer, said his client loved his son and performed CPR on him when he wasn’t breathing. He also noted the lack of direct evidence.

The sentence is planned to be announced on December 19. He faces a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.
