Father accused of kidnapping his 9-year-old daughter from Pembroke now faces first-degree murder charges

PEMBROKE, NC (WRAL) – The man accused of kidnapping his daughter now faces first-degree murder charges.

9-year-old Mekiya Werrell Strickland was found safe after an accident Amber Alert issued Wednesday It was canceled later that day around 3 a.m.

The 9-year-old girl is believed to be with her father, Claude Leslie Werrell, 50, who is wanted for questioning as part of the death investigation. NC Missing Persons Center.

Claude Werrell is now charged with murder.
