Qatar confirms its commitment to use all its capabilities to advance the role of women

The State of Qatar reaffirmed its determination to use all its resources to continue advancing the role of women, empowering them and highlighting their status and valuable contribution to society.

This was stated by Sheikha Maha bint Mubarak Al-Thani, Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the United Nations, in a statement addressed to agenda item (27) at the 79th session of the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. Sheikha Maha explained that women’s empowerment occupies a prominent position and is among Qatar’s top priorities, driven by a strong belief in the importance of supporting women’s human rights and the fundamental role women play as both contributors and beneficiaries in the state’s development journey. . .

He added that Qatar’s Permanent Constitution provides the framework for the principle of equality and non-discrimination, guaranteeing equal rights and duties and equal opportunities in accessing services and ensuring equal participation in all fields.

He emphasized Qatar’s commitment to empowering women and improving their status and roles through numerous initiatives, policies and programs implemented over the years. He noted that these efforts have contributed greatly to the empowerment of Qatari women and their increased participation in the workforce in both the public and private sectors.

He also expressed pride in the State of Qatar’s experience in empowering female judges, noting the existence of talented female judges who are willing and able to succeed in this field. He highlighted Qatar’s initiative to lead international efforts towards the adoption of General Assembly resolution 75/274, which designated 10 March as International Women Judges Day.
