Much of SA is in a heatwave and fire danger warnings are in effect until Monday

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has published its latest weather forecast for Saturday 2 November 2024.

Meteorology warned of a heat wave with high temperatures continuing in most provinces until Monday and a high fire danger in four provinces. Here’s what you need to know.

Fire danger warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the northern interior of the Eastern Cape and the central and western parts of both the Free State and North West provinces.

Gauteng:

Gauteng residents can expect nice and warm weather, while southern parts may be partly cloudy in the afternoon. The weather will be very hot in the north.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “very high.”

Citizens need to take the necessary precautions to avoid being exposed to the sun for a long time.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga residents can expect morning fog on the hillside; Otherwise it will be nice and warm, partly cloudy in the Highveld in the afternoon. It will be very hot in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

The day will be nice and warm or very hot.

North-West province:

Nice and warm to very hot weather conditions await residents of the North West, with partly cloudy weather and occasional thunderstorms expected in the western parts.

Independency:

Free State residents will expect fine and warm to very hot weather, with the exception of southern parts where they will experience partly cloudy weather with isolated thunderstorms.

Northern Cape:

The day will start with fog in the morning along the coast where the weather will be cool; Otherwise, the weather will be fine and warm to hot, but very hot in the central and eastern parts. It will be partly cloudy in the northeast, with intermittent showers after noon.

Western Cape:

Western Cape residents can expect partly cloudy, cool weather along the coast; otherwise it will be nice and warm but hot in the Central Karoo.

Eastern Cape (western half):

There will be some fog in the south in the morning hours; otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm to very hot but cool along the coast.

Morning fog will be located south of the cliff; otherwise the weather along the coast will be nice and cool to hot. The weather will be partly cloudy in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal:

KwaZulu-Natal residents can look forward to morning fog inland; otherwise it will be partly cloudy and warm to very hot.

The area’s expected UVB sunburn index is “extreme.”
