Attempted burglary suspect arrested wearing ski mask, tracking devices found in victim’s car: Westlake Police Blotter

WESTLAKE, Ohio –

Attempted theft, threatening: Laura Lane

A Laura Lane resident called the police department at 10:50 pm on October 11 to report a burglary at her home.

The woman heard someone trying to open the sliding door at the back of the house.

Police found a man wearing a balaclava in the garden. He ran away from officers, but at least one officer fired a stun gun and he was quickly arrested, according to a police department press release. Officers also discovered that the man was using GPS devices on the woman’s vehicle to track her movements. They seized two GPS trackers.

The victim and the suspect were distant acquaintances but did not have a close relationship. The 27-year-old was accused of attempted theft and stalking and threatening. He was held on $50,000 bail and taken to the Cuyahoga County jail. A protection order was issued.

OVI: Crocker Road

At 10 p.m. on Oct. 17, officers responded to Crocker Road at Clemens Road after callers reported a driver lost control of his car, struck the curb and then crashed into a guardrail.

The driver, a 33-year-old from Cleveland, told cops he came from a bar and didn’t remember what happened.

Officers discovered he had several grams of crack cocaine, a small scale and a snorting tube, according to a police department press release.

An ambulance took him to UH St. John took him to Medical Center. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to control. According to police, this was his fourth OVI since 2016, making the crime a felony. Additional charges may be filed when the case is presented to a county grand jury, according to the press release.

OVI Detroit Road

Officers arrested a 41-year-old Cleveland man after a Giant Eagle Market District employee called to report the man had passed out in his car.

While an employee was trying to deliver food to a parked vehicle in the grocery shopping area, the worker found the unconscious man with a bottle of tequila between his legs.

Officers woke the man and arrested him for OVI, possession of an open container and driving under suspension. He refused an alcohol breath test, so Westlake police added another suspension to his record.

Officers also found an unmarked yellow pill inside the clear plastic wrapper and several opaque “gems” wrapped in brown paper, according to the press release.
