(International) Angry protests over ’14 dead’ train station roof collapse disaster in Serbia

In Serbia, protests were held to hold the government accountable for the collapse of the outer roof of a train station that killed 14 people.

Thousands of people gathered at the Ministry of Construction and Transport building in the center of the capital Belgrade on Thursday local time and demanded that those responsible be punished.

Shouting “Arrest, arrest”, the group protested the police blocking the entrance of the building, saying they were “protecting the murderer”.

The concrete outer roof of a train station in the northern Serbian city of Novisad suddenly collapsed on the 1st, hitting the citizens underneath. 14 people died and three were seriously injured in the conflict.

Accident involving a 6-year-old girl.

Critics point out that poor construction caused the disaster at the Novisad train station, which reopened in July after three years of renovation.

Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic said authorities were investigating those responsible for the disaster and promised a thorough investigation.

Novisad prosecutors said that they investigated 26 officials, including Minister of Construction and Transport Goran Besic, and seized important documents.
