‘Greeshma mixed the herbicide paraquat with decoction; ‘Googled before application’, Sharon murder case, Greeshma, paraquat, weed killer, poison, medical team

Neyyattinkara: The medical team made very important statements in the controversial Sharon murder case. The team testified that paraquat, a weed killer, was mixed into a medicinal decoction and given to Sharon by Greeshma. There was previously uncertainty about the specific poison used.

Expert doctors from the College of Medicine who treated Sharon testified before Neyyattinkara Additional District Sessions Judge AM Basheer. At around 10.30am on October 14, 2022, Greeshma allegedly mixed paraquat into a medicinal drink and gave it to her boyfriend, Sharon Raj. Hours before administering the poison, Greeshma reportedly searched the internet to understand how paraquat affects the human body. During a web search he learned that a 15ml dose would be fatal. Evidence regarding his online searches was presented to the court by the prosecution.

Days before administering the fatal dose, Greeshma had given Sharon a juice mixed with paracetamol tablets in a method called a “juice challenge”. The prosecution presented digital evidence showing that Greeshma repeatedly searched the internet to determine the harmful dosage of paracetamol. Special Public Prosecutor VS Vineeth Kumar represented the prosecution in court.

Greeshma’s third accused uncle, Nirmal Kumar, reportedly supplied her with paraquat. The prosecution presented the poison bottle and other evidence to the court. Greeshma’s internet search records were retrieved from her phone in the presence of Tahsildar Noushad, who documented the findings.

Sharon Raj, a native of Parassala Samudayappetty, and Greeshma from Deviode, Tamil Nadu, had a romantic relationship. Meanwhile, Greeshma received a marriage proposal from an Army officer. A horoscope prediction indicated that her first husband would die young, which allegedly led him to poison Sharon after a symbolic marriage. Greeshma’s mother Sindhu is the second defendant in the case.

After their symbolic marriage, Sharon and Greeshma stayed together in a hotel in Thirparappu. The hotel manager appeared in court and identified Greeshma. The medical team included doctors Arun, Hemant, Shalini, Reena Chandran, Sherinsha, Anil, Satyadas, Aravind and Anu Balakrishnan.

Further hearing and examination of evidence before Judge AM Basheer will be held on Monday and the prosecution will also prepare a toxicologist.
