Man charged with knife attack after breaking into home | News

When police searched Yigo’s home at 2.41am on Sunday morning, they found two men struggling with each other on a third-floor balcony, according to the magistrate’s complaint filed with the Supreme Court.

A woman at the scene told police that her ex-boyfriend Befery Eram, 26, broke into her home, saw another man on the balcony and ran towards him with a knife in his hand. The man allegedly resisted and managed to fend off Eram until police arrived.

Eram was charged Monday with burglary, a second-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

Police said the front door of the home appeared to have been kicked in, the door jamb and locking mechanism were broken, and there were splintered pieces of wood on the floor.

The man and woman told police they heard a noise in the middle of the night, and the man told the woman to hide in her bedroom and call police while they investigated. The complaint stated that while she was standing on the balcony, she heard a loud noise as the front door opened and Eram entered the house, went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and then attacked her, trying to stab her.

At one point Eram dropped the knife and police placed it on the grass below. The woman told police that she had not been in a relationship with Eram for more than a year and that she was not allowed into his home without his permission.

The man told police he had never met Eram before.
