Watch: Kamran Ghulam impersonates Steve Smith, then gets kicked out by a brutal bouncer

Pakistan batsman Kamran Ghulam had a fun banter with Pat Cummins during the first ODI against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday, November. Playing his first ODI in a year and 11 months, Ghulam started his innings well with a boundary against Adam Zampa in his second ball.

In the next over, he emulated Australian star Steve Smith by saying no to a run with a loud call pointing in the direction of the ball. Ghulam’s antics even brought a smile to the face of Cummins, who collected the ball. However, in the next ball, the Australian skipper responded in his own style by bowling a wicked bouncer which caught Ghulam by surprise as he slotted it past wicketkeeper Josh Inglis. As a result, he was dismissed for 5 (6), leaving Pakistan at 70/4 in 19 overs.

Naseem Shah bats for Pakistan

New white-ball skipper Mohammad Rizwan, who lost both the openers on 24, joined star batsman Babar Azam in the field. The duo added 39 runs for the third wicket to calm the nerves in the dressing room but failed to take the lead as Zampa bowled Babar out for 37 (44). After losing his partner, Rizwan continued to occupy the crease at one end and put the scoreboard ahead.

He was dismissed for 44 (71) with six runs remaining in his half-century defeat against Marnus Labuschagne. Naseem Shah (40 off 39), Irfan Khan (22 off 35 and Shaheen Afridi (24 off 19) also made valuable contributions to help Pakistan reach 203 in 46.4 overs.

In reply, Australia were one leg ahead thanks to a mammoth 85-run stand between Josh Inglis (49) and Steven Smith (44). But Haris Rauf’s superb spell (3/65) brought Pakistan back into the game, leaving Australia 139/6 in 20.2 overs. But skipper Pat Cummins saw his team home with an unbeaten knock of 32* (31), helping Australia chase down the target in 33.3 overs and win the match by two wickets.
