This Rajasthani Duo Scammed Amazon Of Rs 1.29 Crore, Here’s How They Achieved It

Two men from Rajasthan were arrested for defrauding Amazon of around 1.29 billion rupees. The accused Raj Kumar Meena (23 years old) and Subhash Gurjar (27 years old) are alleged to have committed similar scams in the past as they have many cases registered against them in various states such as Assam, Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana. Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Scam Disclosure

The duo devised a unique scheme to defraud Amazon by ordering cheap items as well as expensive electronics using fake identities in various states. When orders arrived, one person distracted the delivery driver while the other changed the labels, attaching the label of the higher-priced item to the lower-cost item.

They then deliberately enter a wrong OTP and send the delivery person back with the promise of picking up the order the next day, but then cancel it. After securing the valuable items, they would resell them and dispose of the SIM cards, according to a report by Indian Express.

On September 21, the duo went to Mangaluru, where they ordered two high-end Sony cameras and ten more low-cost items under the fake name “Amrith” for delivery near KSRTC bus stand. When the delivery arrived, Meena provided the OTP for the low-value items, while Gurjar distracted the delivery man, allowing them to replace the labels of expensive cameras with labels of cheaper items.

Meena then deliberately entered a wrong OTP, delaying the confirmation and told the delivery agent that they would complete the order the next day. They rescinded the camera order shortly after, which raised red flags. Amazon’s delivery partner Mahindra Logistics discovered the label switch and alerted Amazon to suspicious activity.

How They Got Caught

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal stated that the investigation started after a case was registered at Urwa police station. “The accused were initially identified by understanding their ordering patterns on Amazon,” Agarwal told the New Indian Express.

The police identified the suspects from the security camera footage taken at the delivery site. Just as the duo was preparing to leave the city, authorities caught them at the airport. Officers recovered Rs 11.45 lakh in cash, which the suspects obtained by selling the stolen cameras.
